A message is a set of information that is explicitly sent from a source to a destination. It is derived from the Latin word “mittere” which means “to send.”
In modern society, much of the information perceived by people takes the form of messages. However, information received directly from the environment (e.g. temperature) is unmediated and therefore not a message.
